A crack mechanic, Victor E. Bertrandias was the crew chief for Captain Eddie Rickenbackers 94th Aero Squadron in World War I. He received a battlefield commission and stayed in the U.S. Army Air Corps through World War II, eventually rising to the rank of Major General, U. S. Air Force. He retired as a Vice President of Douglas Aircraft (later McDonnell-Douglas) and is buried in Arlington National Cemetery..
